Vi's Adventure Trek & Run

Attached is the application for VI's Adventure Trek & Run. This fun event is in honor of
Vi Jones-Medusky who has ALS.

Most of you know Vi from her many years of tri training. (Her daughter is Malia Jones) (Pomai works with her husband) (Wanda Kakugawa is her cousin) I had the pleasure of meeting Vi while in Bali with Pomai. She is a energetic positive person whom is very knowledgable about endurance training. We talked for a quite a while about it. I am amazed at her accomplishments in the Triathlon world. She is a inspiring person!

This event will benefit MDA of Hawaii.
Please consider supporting this cause if your schedule allows as I know I will.

Stephanie Lum & Peter Hursty Compete in the 2008 Molokai to Oahu Paddleboard Race

Peter competed in his first but not last I'm sure, Molokai to Oahu Paddleboard race.

The conditions were challenging to say the least. WIth high seas, choppy conditions and the usual steady trades it was a challenge even for the expierenced paddlers. Some of the folks that did well last year had a tough time this year.

Peter competed in the stock division and finished the race in 7 hrs. & 10 minutes. This was after not being able to start with the field as his support boat arrived late. Peter didn't let this stop him as slowly started picking off his other competitors along the way. He was having a grand ole time to somewhere off of China Walls where things got really tough. But he hung in there and finished strong! Had he not started late he would have been sub 7 hrs for sure!

There was also a Stand Up Paddle Board division that a fellow HR Swim clinic (Stephanie Lum) team member competed in. She was part of a four person Celebrity relay team. There were three Celebrity teams that finished and I'm not sure which one she was on to list a time. Sorry! I have a short attention span! :)

Congrats goes out to both you! Great Job!

Pics from our trip!

The pics start with our flight from Honolulu on a small 6 seater airplane piloted in part by Peter. You'll see Honolulu, Waikiki and the east side of Oahu from the Air. Then our landing on Molokai at a private airstrip (video on you tube). The house we stayed at on Molokai (SWEET PLACE!) The pics from the day before the race followed by race day pics. Enjoy!

Video is from our take off from Honolulu. Flight over Oahu and the Kaiiwi (sp) channel. Then our landing in Molokai on a private grass airstrip! It was awesome! What an adventure! Can't wait for next years race!

There are five videos so far from our trip. Waiting for Peter's.

Congrats to All HR Training Tinman Team Members

Congrats to all of you who participated in the 2008 Annual Tinman Triathlon. It was a great day for some and not so great for others.

Race results are below:

Free pics in Craig's List (Thanks Dottie)

http://www.boomermaterial.com/

Thankfully Jami Hirota & Bocar Wade are both doing fine considering the nature of their accidents. Jami was cutoff by a car resulting in both Jami and another athlete broadsiding the car. Jami was unable to finish the race. She did require hospitalzation but is doing fine.

Bocar (as I understand it) tried to avoid an officer standing in the road at the bottom of Heart Break hill and lost control and went down. His bike is in two pieces but he is doing fine. Another rider went down in almost the same place prior to Bocar so I'm not sure if this had anything to do with the officer being in an unusal spot in the road.

We are very happy that both of you are alive and doing well considering!

On a happier note there were a number of other HR clinic folks that raced.

Eleanor Kitagawa took her age group! That's awesome even if you were the only one in that bracket! :) Cheryl Nishita placed 11th overall in her bracket. Sandra Wataoka placed 15th in the same bracket. Awesome job to both of you. Dottie Suno raced as well although for some reason she isn't listed. Hopefully she can straighten this out.

In the team event, The team of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" (Ruta Summers, Emily Callan & Judy Strait-Jones) finished 7th in thier bracket.

Pomai was planning on being a spectator! Silly Boy! He was asked, or volunteered depending on who you talk to, to join a team that was short their runner! This team finished 7th overall in the mixed team bracket! Great job!

A future HR Team member (whether she likes it or not :) ) who continues to amaze us is Marlene Zeug. She took third in her age bracket and still HASN'T clipped in! Talking about guts and determination!

Congrats to all of you! You all have done a fantastic job! Now it's time to rest up for next years season!

Bike To Hana Admissions Day weekend

Hi Everyone -

In case you're interested, IT&B's owner, Frank Smith, asked me to pass this on.

He still has a few spaces available on his signature event: the road to Hana bicycle adventure. The dates are Friday 8/15, Admissions Day holiday, through Sunday 8/17. The cost is $450 which includes all your meals, basic no frills lodging, support van, bike mechanic, route map and a whole lot of fun. The road to Hana is a superb training event, especially for Oahu cyclists who are burned out on the same old routes. Hana itself is a very special place for experiencing the real Hawaii and for relaxing--the air is therapeutic. Contact Frank at the shop 732-7227, at home 737-1345 or at fwsiii43@hotmail.com. This is a challenging ride on one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

WAY TO GO TEAM HR at Honolulu Tri

Update! Pics from the race!

Click Here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rickspics1/sets/72157605151915016/

UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Congrats HR TEAM. I can't get over all these results. I don't even know where to start. On the olympic distance side: 100% From what I can see had faster swim results then last year. Steve Davidson lead the charge by dropping close to 10 minutes Plus (crushed his time from last year overall) Eleanor cut over 5 minutes on her swim and crushed her overall time from last year.

Cheryl, Sandra, Tom all swam faster!!!!! Remember if you are doing Both Honu and Todays race you can't really compare doing this at a lower Hr to Last years overall results. Congrats to

Shirley and Pomai for gutting it out for Battle of the ages.

Shirley Smoked the swim bike and run for a 2:49!!! She gets the sandbagger award. We never knew you had that kind of speed.

Cheryl and Sandra were patiently running at HR lookin at me like HO HUM just cruising along at My HR. Great job Ladies. Your big race is to come. Great swim splits this year!!

Tom, Looked very comfortable from the start. Knows he has a big one in two weeks. He cut another 30+ seconds of his swim time this year. Just missed breaking the 35min barrier.

Bocar was floating on the run in 54 minutes. Way to go Bocar.

Sprint race:

Congrats to Dottie for winning her age group and beating last years time by 10 minutes.

Judy: First race and 15+ years I think. Looking strong! Way to go Judy. You and Emily looked great on the run together. Emily: First triathlon ever!!!! You looked like you were on a training run. Way to go Emily. You have come a long way.

Mike Nishimoto Went 1:46 in the Short course. Once again looking smooth. Inspiring us all.

Oh yeah, and Claus kills it with 1 day of training a week. Way to go Claus. Congrats to all today.

Non Clinic Training - Sunday May 18th.

This weeks non-clinic training will be on your own.

The schedule calls for a two hour run followed by a 2000 - 2500m swim. With a few of us going down to cheer on our fellow teammates at the Hon Tri, getting together for a late start group run would be difficult. Gotta love the heat though!

I will be running after the race probably leaving from the Paki Park area if anyone wants to join me. I will be doing a swim out to the wind sock after.

Changes to Saturdays Clinic! May 17th!

Peter has changed the clinic from Waimanalo loop ride to Paki Park loops out to Hawaii Kai.

We will be starting from the Paki Park parking lot that is part of Kapiolani Park by the bathrooms (runs paralle along the road up to Diamind Head - can't recall the name right now sorry!). For those of you who have done the non-clinic rides with me it's the parking lot we always leave from.

We will do two laps out to Hawaii Kai via Portlock. The first lap will be back to Triangle Park then back out to Hawaii Kai. We will then finish back at Paki Park where we started followed by a run. There may be a few exceptions to this but Peter will talk to those lucky few lucky who will have a different course.

See everyone Saturday!

Honolulu Tri This Weekend - Sunday, May 18th

This Sunday is the Honolulu Tri (starts @ 6:00 am I believe). It is a 1.5K swim, 40K Bike & a 10K Run. The race is at Ala Moana Beach Park with all transitions on the Magic Island side of the parking.

Please head down and support our fellow clinic team members. They have worked very hard to get to this point and could use some cheering on from all of us. I know I will be there in my cheerleaders outfit offering words of encourgement!

There is a challenge between some of our fellow clinic members! The BIG battle between Shirley & Pomai for the crown of "Age over Youth"! Should be a nail bitter! They're both winners in my book!

Good luck to all of you! I know all your hard work will pay off!

Wednesday, May 7, 2008

Sunday 5/11/08 Non-Clinic Training

We will be riding out of Paki Park at 7:00 am for a 3 1/2 hour bike ride.

Goal is too make it to Enchanted Lakes area with some hill work along the way. This means we'll be keeping the pace up heart rate allowing. Following the ride we will swim 2000 - 2500 m to the wind sock. Sounds like a fun day to me!

Hope to see everyone there!

Rick

North Shore Swim Series & Waikiki Rough Water

I will be signing up to do these swim series races. I'd like to get an idea if anyone else is interested in doing them as well. It will be a great way to stay in shape as the Tri season starts to wind down. There are a couple os swim clinics that we could join so let me know if you are interested.

5/6/08 - Update - I have registered for the North Shore Swim Series so if you plan on doing these races please let me know. I'll be looking for a clinic to coach for this.

Bike Shipping to Kona for Honu - Who Needs to Ship?

With the unstability of Aloha Airlines we have started to source other means to get your bike to Kona. Hopefully they will be back and flying and Dennis can help us out once again. By far this is the best way to go.

I would like to know how how many bikes will need to be shipped? Please post a comment if you will need shipping etc.

However, just to be prepared Laurie and I have been researching alternatives.

Obviously you can crate it yourself, ship it and reassemble it. Which may be best for you.

There are couple of services that provide this as well. Below are the links for them.

http://www.imhawaii.com/newsletter/editions/tbt-honu-04-28-08.html

http://www.hpbikeworks.com/Bikeworks/IM703ShippingChoice.html

Let us know if you have any questions.

UPDATE!

5/7/08 - Dennis was able to secure the shipping crate again through Aloha Airlines. Please let him know if you are interested in shipping your bike with him.

2008 Honu Race End of Training Party

Laurie and I have been discussing where to have this event. We feel that Du Vin should be fun. For those of you who have forgotten where this fine establishment is just head to Bethel St. (it's where Mel's going away party was). The party is open to all of tri friends even if you didn;t do the clinic this year. We'd love to catch up with all of you so please plan on coming once we decide when it is.

We also have a few other things to discuss later with everyon who is the clinic.

2008 70.3 Half Ironman May 31st

I will be headng up to Kona on Thursday May 29th around 1:30 pm. and returning late (I think it's 7:30 pm) on Sunday June 1st. (Lauire I'll need a ride to the airport for the return :)) I have a reserved a SUV. I'm hoping we can get the Condo again and split amoung a bunch of us. I know there are at least 5 people so far interested.

Again we are hoping to ship the bikes via Aloha as we did last time. If not I know the bikes shops offer a ship and prep program. Hopefully someone can get some details on this. The other alternative is to buy a bike box and tear down your bike for bosing then reassemble when you get there.

As with last year, by sharing the condo we can help each prep and get ready for the race. In addition we can do a Costco run for food! There was a lot of input from everyone.

Non Clinic Training This weekend 5/4/08

Depending on Sunday's schedule I will be planning on a long ride late Sunday morning. I have an opportunity to cruise with other Mini owners through Kolekoloe pass this Sunday starting around 9:00 am which I will be doing. I plan on riding pineapple hill after for any of you that want a really hot hill work out! I love hills!

Time to follow when I get a an idea when I'll be pau!

Time Confirmed. I should be done by 10:15 or so. Let's plan on meeting at Mokuleia Beach Park along the fence that surronds the airfield at 11:00 am. It will be a nice hot ride!

Welcome to HR Triathlon Trainings Blog

Please feel free to drop a note or a response. This is a brand new site for HRT and the hope is to be able to provide an effective means of communicating with all the clinic members.
